SOME months ago I wrote a letter to the South Wales Argus’ letters page, searching for a photograph of Bassaleg Grammar School taken in 1952, and asking if anyone could assist me in obtaining a copy.
I have, since that time, had replies from former fellow pupils and current staff members, offering and sending me, via email, copies of that and other school memorabilia, from places ranging from as far afield as the Middle East and Ontario, Canada.
Some of these people had spotted my original letter while reading the online Argus, and also reading about my self-financed biography A Welshman Remembers.
I am fast heading towards my 74th birthday and, since my retirement, I have by trial and error mastered my trusty computer and word processor and I would urge anyone with time to spare to take advantage of courses run by local authorities at places such as Brynglas House and other venues in and around Newport.
