PUPILS at an Abergavenny primary school did their maths lessons using Roman numerals in the last week of term.
Year 3 at Llantilio Pertholey Primary School all dressed up for Roman Day, organised by their teacher Simon Oram, who wore a toga to get into the spirit of the occasion.
The children had a Latin lesson where they learned greetings and sayings in Latin and they had to stand up in front of the rest of the class and describe what they were wearing and what they represented, such as a slave, a goddess, a rich Roman or a soldier.
Said Mr Oram: “The whole class paraded around the main hall so the other pupils from the school could see their wonderful costumes. I was delighted that every child dressed up for the day.”
In the afternoon the children went outside for simulated chariot races, javelin throwing and running races.
