Undefeated in 2008 Firbank Dale Tennis Club became the top club in Gwent by winning the Gwent Premier Division Championship and the League Cup.
Club Captain, Simon Angel, collected the trophies at the Greenmeadow Golf Club, Cwmbran, from Paul Hogan of Cymru Kitchens, the sponsors of the Gwent Mid Week Tennis League.
This was a great follow up to last season’s title of “Senior Sports Team of the Year” as voted by the Newport Sports Council.
Club President, Mike Stevens, who has played tennis at Firbank for over sixty years and recently played for South Wales Veterans at Wimbledon, said he was very proud to be associated with such a progressive club.
The team captains do a great job and the coaches are first class with the Juniors. St Julian’s School enjoys free use of the club’s four artificial grass courts during term time.
