There's a green-tinged high point in this miserable January weather - Starbucks has a new Pistachio Matcha Latte (from £5.45), amid a winter menu that's a festival of all things pistachio.

My star of the show - putting the star in Starbucks - is its glorious Pistachio & White Chocolate Loaf Cake (£3.95). Sweet and salty, it's worth braving even the chilliest winter day for.

I paired it with the Pistachio Velvet Oat Latte (£5.45), as the green nut is still having its main-character moment.

The range brings together the flavours well, with plenty of sweet and salty nuttiness, while allowing the flavours of the coffee to shine through.

I tried my friend's drink, the matcha too, which was a little on the sweet side, although very good. When I'm ordering next time, I'll stay in my own lane and stick with the pistachio.

I also preferred the hot option to the iced one - but that may be because it's snowing outside - once the temperatures climb above zero, I'm sure I'll embrace the ice again.

There's also a new Ristretto Bianco (£3.80), a shorter, bolder serve made with triple Starbucks Blonde Ristretto shots and silky whole milk, promising a rich, velvety cup.

There's also some familiar food favourites to fuel the new year, with fruity Berry Crunch, or protein-packed Egg White Bites with Three Cheese and Red Pepper.

The full winter menu is available now.
