HERE we featured a picture of the Brynglas Tunnels, Newport, on the M4 during construction in 1965.
THE photo is of the famous (or should I say infamous) Brynglas Tunnels. These were built in the 1960s as part of the M4 motorway. The start of the tunnels was in the quarry of the Crindau brick works.
During the building the ground above subsided causing several houses to collapse.
Several more houses were deemed unsafe and were demolished.
The Bryn Bevan estate now stands on this site. These tunnels can no longer carry the volume of traffic and a new bypass motorway is proposed.

THE biggest mistake for the M4, should have been a cut, not tunnels, but there you go the best bottle neck you can get jammed in.
