WALES star Gavin Henson, who had been linked with a move to Newport Gwent Dragons, has been knocked out with a punch by a Bath teammate on a night out.

Henson lay dazed for five minutes in the middle of a crowded pub in Bath city centre after being hit by an unnamed fellow player.

The 2005 and 2008 Grand Slam winner was sent sprawling to the floor at the Pig and Fiddle out on the town with his new side.

Reports say the controversial Henson, former partner of singer Charlotte Church, who was part of a group of around ten Bath players in the bar on Wednesday evening, had been ‘swanning around like he owned the place’ ahead of the fracas.

Fellow revellers said the rumpus occurred when tempers flared after one of them told Henson to calm down, the pair then squaring up to one another.

The Aviva Premiership club confirmed in a statement that they are looking into the matter.

The statement read: “Bath Rugby can confirm there was a minor incident in the city centre on Wednesday night involving a few members of the playing squad.

“The club are investigating the matter as a priority and will only make a statement when further information is available.”

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that they received a call reporting “aggressive behaviour” that night but, while the caller was on the line, the group left the pub and so officers were not required to attend. Consequently no offences are being investigated.

The Pig and Fiddle has declined to comment on the matter.

Bath are 31-year-old Henson’s fifth club in the space of two years as he seeks to revive a career that promised much in his youth.

The outside half or centre has not represented his country since winning the last of his 33 caps in 2011 in a pre-World Cup friendly victory over England in Cardiff.
