Emperor's Choice just got the better of Benvolio in a thrilling tussle for the Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow.
The Venetia Williams-trained seven year old was well backed on course and was sent off 9-1 by Chepstow punters to prevail in the marathon contest.
Glenquest looked the likely winner when taking it up two from home, but he was overtaken by Benvolio and Emperor's Choice in the closing stages and it was the latter who just got the verdict by a short head.
Monbeg Dude ran on for fourth behind Glenquest with Benbens the fifth horse home.
