Cwmbran produced their poorest performance in years to fall to defeat against one of the only two sides below them in the Welsh Premier League.

It was their fifth successive loss, and the togetherness and camaraderie which had developed as a result of the club's well-documented financial problems now appear to have evaporated.

It's now 473 minutes without a goal, and unless Cwmbran can recapture their early-season form, and quick, then there's only going to be one outcome - relegation.

The Crows earned a reprieve from the drop when no club was eligible to be promoted last April.

But with a whole host of promotion applicants now matching ground criteria, it's almost certain one club will go down at the end of the current campaign.

Despite having underachieved in their last outing, a 3-0 away defeat at NEWI Cefn Druids on January 27, the Crows retained the same side.

There was one change on the substitutes' bench, where 17-year-old academy player Luke Sallis came in for the unavailable Gareth Wysome.

However, there was a difference in the way the Crows lined up, with skipper Josh Collins, usually a central defender, given a striker's role in a three-strong attack and Rhys Williams, normally a midfielder, taking over Collins' role.

Midfielder Shane Dawe came in from his wide berth into the centre to partner Kris Leek, the last player to score for Cwmbran - in a 2-2 home draw against Llanelli on December 15.

The new format appeared to have the desired effect because Cwmbran began like a house on fire - although they never recovered from an absolutely amazing miss by striker Sam Small within a minute.

Collins' cross fell to Small and when he side-footed a shot from the edge of the six-yard box it appeared a certain goal.

But although home keeper Adam McGee was beaten, the ball rebounded off a post before being cleared by a grateful Airbus defender.

Within five minutes midfielder Michael Parkins and Leek had fired in long-range efforts. However, sadly, that's as good as it got because it was all downhill after that opening mini-salvo.

The match was only six minutes old when Cwmbran's plans were upset after left back Gareth Mouncher was forced off with an ankle strain, and as the first period developed, the home side came back into the match with Crows goalkeeper Gareth Wesson brilliantly saving Neal Wynn's point-blank effort.

But after player-manager Gareth Owen opened the scoring by firing past an exposed Wesson before the break, the Wingmakers wrapped up the win with two goals from defender Mark Allen after it.

Bad days at the office don't come much worse than this.
