ALBION Rovers confirmed they are the cup kings this season after adding the County Motors Challenge Cup to the John Payne Barber Gwent Amateur Cup they won just six days earlier.
Rovers beat Newport Corinthians 2-1 at Abergavenny’s Penypound Stadium on Saturday, May 9, to lift the Amateur Cup for the first time since 1991.
And last Friday the Newport side made it a cup double as they returned to Abergavenny to see off a strong Malpas side in the Challenge Cup final.
The sides were locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes with Ryan Andrews hitting two goals for Rovers and Luke Hughes two for Malpas.
But Rovers edged it 3-2 thanks to Mark Millinship’s extra-time winner and Warren Archer was named man of the match.
