NEWPORT sprinter Mica Moore has turned her attention to winter sport after being selected as part of the four-strong Great Britain bobsleigh women's World Cup squad.

Moore has been part of Welsh Athletics Athlete Support programmes since 2014 and helped the Welsh 4x100m relay team break the national record in the Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow.

She boasts 100m and 200m personal bests of 11.65 seconds and 23.92 seconds respectively.

The new World Cup season kicks off in the first week of December in Whistler, Canada, with a further seven races following across North America, Europe and Asia.

Moore travelled to Canada on November 1 and will return to Wales on December 18.

The GB team will be piloted by Mica McNeill, with Moore acting as a brakewomen alongside fellow track athletes Montell Douglas and Anya Kay.

Moore will continue to sprint in the summer months while she pursues her sporting ambitions to contest the highest levels of sport, on the winter circuit.

Welsh Athletics said: “Her selection highlights the strong foundations that athletics as a sport offers all athletes and shows how the sport is a key player in boosting Wales’ status as a sporting nation.

“We wish Mica all the best and look forward to seeing her on the track again soon.”

Olympic relay champion Mark Lewis-Francis has also been selected as part of the GB men’s bobsleigh squad.
