SEAN Rigg returns to the Newport County AFC squad for Saturday’s home clash with Hartlepool United after overcoming a hamstring injury.

Rigg, who has played as a striker, winger and central midfielder this season, has been out since the 2-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers on January 2.

His return to fitness is a big boost for manager Graham Westley who is still without Joss Labadie and Jennison Myrie-Williams as well as Jamie Turley and Lenell John-Lewis.

“Riggy is back in training and it’s nice to have him available,” said Westley.

“It gives us another option – a little bit of variety in the middle of the park and obviously he can play wide as well.

“Labs has a grade two or grade three medial strain, which is six weeks at best and maybe eight or 10 so he’s going to be a while.

“And Jennison’s ankle injury will keep him out for around five weeks.”

Labadie was injured in the FA Cup replay defeat to Plymouth Argyle on December 21 and Myrie-Williams twisted his ankle at Stevenage on January 7.

John-Lewis has been sidelined since pre-season and is not expected to feature during this campaign and Turley has been ruled out since September and is still some way off a return to fitness.
