FORMER Newport County AFC defender Darren Jones has taken his first steps into management by taking over Welsh League Division Three outfit Chepstow Town, writes Terry Daley.

The 34-year-old replaces Dave Livermore, who stood down recently to end his second spell as boss of the Larkfield Ground side, and will be in the dug-out for his first home game on Saturday against Trefelin.

He only signed for Gwent County League Division Three club West of St Julians earlier this month after being released by Vanarama National League side Bath City, where he was skipper.

Jones made over 100 County appearances in three spells, including 34 in the 2016-17 campaign, and also appeared for Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Hereford United, Aldershot Town, Shrewsbury Town and AFC Wimbledon.

Chepstow sit 11th of 16 in the Division Three table with three wins, the same amount of draws and six defeats, the last of which was Saturday’s 5-2 loss at Cardiff-based Bridgend Street.

* Division Two promotion contenders Caldicot Town have signed former club junior Tyrone Tucker-Dixon from Southern League Division One West Poulton Rovers.

The 19-year-old forward was previously skipper of Bristol Rovers’ under-18s side before being released and also had spells with Luton Town and Hereford FC.

He is the son of Tyrone Tucker-Dixon Snr, who was Caldicot’s leading goal scorer with 26 in 2008-09.

* The Football Association of Wales has approved the following transfers: Luca Bullock, Croesyceiliog to Caerleon; Shane Murphy, Mathern Wanderers to Chepstow Town; Aaron Palfery, Cwmbran Town to Cwmbran Celtic; Lloyd Pugh, Risca United to Cromwell AFC; Liam Screen, Panteg to Caerleon.
