MICHAEL Flynn had nothing but praise for his players following Newport County AFC’s 2-0 defeat of Yeovil Town at Huish Park in League Two.

A brace of second half goals from Josh Sheehan and Paul Hayes gave the Exiles three much-needed points in their pursuit of the play-offs.

“On the whole, they played and defended very well,” he said. “Other than the one across the front of the goal, the quick free-kick and the one Joe saved, I can’t really remember Yeovil creating much else.

“I thought we created more chances and should have probably scored a few more, like I keep saying.”

He added: “I thought Ben White was exceptional, even when he went to right-back.

“I wish Paul Hayes was a few years younger because I’d be giving him a long-term deal.

“Obviously it was nice to see Josh Sheehan back in the team and get a goal.

“He started a little bit slowly and faded at the end but in the middle part he was looking dangerous, especially when he got on the ball, and you can see he’s got a little bit stronger.

“I thought Mickey Demetriou was solid as a rock all afternoon, and when he’s like that he’s one of the best defenders in the league.”

Despite Flynn seeing his men close the gap on the sides above them, he says he is not going to get carried away by one win, County’s first in 10 in all competitions.

“I’m not getting carried away by one win, we’ve closed the gap and that’s all we’ve done,” he said. “We’ve got to go and back it up next weekend.”
