UNDY AFC held a Newport County AFC XI to a 1-1 draw in tonight’s pre-season friendly in Chepstow.

The match was held at Chepstow Town’s Larkfield Park home due to the renovation of the playing surface at The Causeway in Undy.

County manager Michael Flynn started with seven trialists and four youth team players – Ryan George, Owen Taylor, Tom Hillman and Lewis Collins.

South Wales Argus:

Gloucester City midfielder Mat Liddiard, who has been training with the Exiles over the past fortnight, was one of the trialists and he looked neat and tidy in the middle of the pitch.

But Trialist 7 was the pick of the bunch, hitting the bar after half an hour and equalising on 75 minutes after James Barnes had put the Welsh League Division Two side ahead four minutes before the interval.

The opener was the result of a quick free-kick from Undy’s Nathan Wood, who released Barnes to finish smartly past County’s goalkeeper (Trialist 1) from the left of the penalty area.

Collins saw a header well saved by Undy stopper James Smallcombe two minutes after the restart and it was another shot from the livewire youngster that allowed Trialist 7 to level from the rebound 15 minutes from time.

Flynn also gave youngsters Owura Edwards and Callum Beckett a chance to impress from the bench but County could not find a winner.
