MANAGER Michael Flynn hailed an “absolutely outstanding” performance from his side as Newport County AFC crushed Cambridge United 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.
Padraig Amond scored two first-half goals to put the Exiles in control at the Abbey Stadium before Jamille Matt and substitute Antoine Semenyo completed the rout after the break.
A late penalty from Ade Azeez robbed goalkeeper Nick Townsend of a clean sheet on his debut bur Flynn was delighted with his team.
"I thought it was an absolutely outstanding performance,” said the Exiles boss.
“We were professional, clinical and ruthless, which I have been asking for.
"These are the standards to set, we need to keep these standards. We have to keep it going and we will not get carried away.
"But the finishing was first class. Our second goal was the best we have scored since I have been manager, it is an unbelievable goal."
County return to League Two action at table-topping Exeter City on Saturday when Robbie Willmott, David Pipe and Andrew Crofts should all be available for selection.
