JORDAN Maule recorded two personal bests on his way to a bronze medal at the British Solo Ice Dance Championships in Sheffield.

The 14-year-old from Newport, who represents Cardiff Ice Skating Club, was competing in the basic novice men category.

He claimed a new lifetime best in the compulsory dance section to finish third, before another personal best skating to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack in the free dance.

He placed third again in that discipline to build his advantage over the fourth-placed skater and take overall bronze.

Maule is currently the highest ranked male Welsh skater in free skating, solo ice dance and couples ice dance.

He trains for approximately 15 hours on the ice and two hours off it each week at Ice Arena Wales – four mornings a week he is on the ice by 6am.

His ice dance coaching team is made up of Danielle Evans, Stella Stokes, James Rigden, Lucy Strange and Alexsandr Pirogov, while his free skating coaches are Dmitry Sukhanov (former world junior pairs champion) and Lucia Busiello.

The Newport teenager is now a five-time British medallist and has competed in seven national championships in all.
