WALES centre Tyler Morgan is set to return for the Dragons in Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 derby against Cardiff Blues in Newport but Jack Dixon is a major doubt.

Morgan has been out of action since suffering a hamstring strain in training ahead of the round three trip to Leinster.

The 23-year-old from Caerleon returned to training in Ystrad Mynach yesterday and is poised to be back for the Rodney Parade derby (kick-off 5.15pm) with Adam Warren moving to 12.

“Tyler did today's session in full and took part in contact as well,” said head coach Bernard Jackman. “We will see how he is tomorrow but we are hopeful.

“It would be a huge boost. In fairness, Adam Warren and Jarryd Sage did a really good job in Glasgow but Tyler is a player we have huge time for and is really important to us.”

The Dragons had been hopeful of the influential Dixon returning after he suffered a stinger to his right arm against Zebre but the 23-year-old is losing his fitness race.

“Jack is in the mix but we won’t take any risks with anybody," said Jackman. "His stinger injury is really hard to put a time on. He trained but non-contact and he is 50/50. We are not overly hopeful.”

Captain Cory Hill and back row forwards Ollie Griffiths and Ross Moriarty are set to return after being rested for last week’s 29-13 loss in Glasgow.

They are among the Wales contenders that will be looking to impress on derby day ahead of the announcement of the autumn squad in a fortnight.

The Test players have also been watched close-hand by Warren Gatland for the past fortnight, the Wales boss providing some defensive expertise when working alongside coach Hendre Marnitz.

“He’s one of the best coaches in the world so he’s going to have an impact on any squad,” said lock Hill, the only player to feature in all 12 of Gatland’s matchday squad last season.

“Obviously Warren is in, he’s the national coach and it just ups everyone’s intensity, even if he’s just standing on the side.

“Everyone wants to train better and impress. So, of course, it’s impacted on us massively.”

Hooker Richard Hibbard is set to train tomorrow after suffering a knee injury when attempting to make tackle in the opening exchanges at Scotstoun.

Fly-half Arwel Robson is a big doubt after suffering an injury to his right ankle – he had two operations on his left one in the summer – and that would mean a start for Josh Lewis.

Gavin Henson is still sidelined by a knee problem and will see a specialist on Friday, leaving Jacob Botica or full-back Jordan Williams as fly-half cover.

Warren will play despite suffering a nasty burn to his face when scoring on Glasgow’s plastic pitch.

"Adam's face is not nice but he is getting on with it and trained with vaseline on. He is not complaining about it, it won't stop him playing," said Jackman.

"It was a very severe face-dive, it was unfortunate but it is not something that happens very often. We don't have any complaints about the pitch."
