MICHAEL Flynn was again frustrated as his Newport County AFC team dropped another two points at Forest Green Rovers.

Padraig Amond cancelled out a Scot Bennett own goal before the break and Mickey Demetriou missed a golden chance to win the match from the spot in the second half.

It was County’s second point of the week after Tuesday’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Macclesfield Town at Rodney Parade.

“I thought we were the better team and deserved the three points,” said Flynn.

“We’ve scored an own goal and missed a penalty so I’m a little bit gutted but I though the players were excellent.

“It was a good game – there’s not many you kind of enjoy on the touchline but there was some really good stuff played and I thought we were excellent but we were just without that final little bit of quality.

“If we had that we would have won comfortably.”

Rovers hit the woodwork twice in the first half but Flynn felt his side was always in control.

“We’ve gone 1-0 down but after that we basically looked after the game,” said the Exiles boss.

“We had the better chances and with the penalty miss we’re frustrated.

“We all miss them, it happens,” added Flynn. “He’s brave enough to go up and take it so he’ll get no backlash from me for that.”

Rovers manager Mark Cooper insisted that the penalty should never have been given.

“I hate moaning about the officials, but Reuben [Reid] has lent into the ball and it has clearly hit his chest or shoulder and gone out for a corner,” he told the Stroud News & Journal.

“Justice was done when they missed from the spot. The fourth official said it wasn’t a penalty. We haven’t lost the game but we are still talking about the referee.”
