FORMER Springboks full-back Zane Kirchner will return to the Dragons squad in Saturday’s European Challenge Cup opener against Timisoara Saracens in Romania.

The 34-year-old is back with the Rodney Parade region after spending the last month on loan at Bristol in the English Premiership.

Kirchner made three appearances for the Bears, coming off the bench against Gloucester and Harlequins before starting at full-back in their hammering at the hands of Worcester on Sunday.

“Zane is also back and he has a lot to offer,” said Jackman. “He has been involved with Bristol and with Hallam (Amos) and Ashton (Hewitt) out he gives us options. It’s good to have him back.”

The Dragons will rest Wales flanker Aaron Wainwright, hooker Richard Hibbard and scrum-half Rhodri Williams while wing Jared Rosser is out after suffering a concussion against Cardiff Blues and lock Brandon Nansen may not travel because of illness.

Scrum-half Rhodri Davies and hooker Rhys Lawrence are set for their debuts from the bench after arriving from Rotherham and Ealing respectively in the summer.
