TEENAGE striker Antoine Semenyo has reportedly attracted the interest of Manchester United, but he couldn’t be happier at Newport County AFC right now.

Scouts from the Premier League giants are believed to be monitoring the Bristol City youngster’s progress during his season-long loan spell with the Exiles.

City do have the option to recall him in January but Semenyo is relishing his time in Newport and looking forward to taking on Stevenage at Rodney Parade this afternoon.

“It’s been fantastic, it’s been the best experience,” said the 18-year-old

“The gaffer and all the players have made me welcome and I’m adapting to their game now. I’m really enjoying it at the moment.

“I haven’t really been starting that much but I’m getting there now and I’m enjoying it.”

Semenyo has scored twice in 12 appearances for County so far, with his progress being disrupted after he suffered from concussion following an incident in the Carabao Cup defeat to Oxford United in August.

“That concussion really killed me but I’m back now,” he said.

“I can’t really remember the incident. They tell me that I went to get the ball and his arm hit me in the temple but it’s all good now.”

Semenyo has enjoyed the experience of starting up front alongside Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond in the last two games.

“I’m learning a lot from them,” he said. “When I’m shooting I like to hit the ball hard but they’re telling me about placement and controlling my shot so I’m learning a lot from them and I’m adapting.

“It’s not as much passing [as Bristol City under-23s] but when we do pass the ball we play great football.

“There are long balls here and there, but we’ve got Jamille Matt up there who is a big tall giraffe and when he knocks it down we’re ready for it.

“Jamille is not the quickest but in the air he’s unbelievable so as soon as he flicks it down me or Podge [Amond] will anticipate and get on to it.”

After successive draws in League Two, Semenyo is confident that third-placed County can beat fifth-placed Stevenage this afternoon.

“I really enjoy the atmosphere at Rodney Parade, it’s electric,” he said.

“Stevenage will be a physical side but we’re better than them. It’ll be a tricky game but if we do our own thing hopefully we’ll get the win.

“Hopefully we don’t make it difficult for ourselves this weekend, but our mindset is so positive and even when we’re down we feel like we can come back into the game.

“The character in this team is unbelievable.”

So much so that the striker believes County can maintain their excellent start to the campaign.

“I didn’t really know the background from last season but, the way we’ve been playing this season, I feel like we can get promotion,” said Semenyo.

“We’ve just got to keep positive, keep doing our thing and it will come.”
