FORMER skipper Joss Labadie has re-signed for Newport County AFC until the end of the season.

The influential 28-year-old midfielder has been out of action since March because of an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in training.

Labadie has made more than 50 appearances for the club since first signing a deal in June 2016.

As captain, he led the team through the Great Escape and to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Since his injury Labadie has worked hard to get back to fitness and confirmed he couldn’t wait to get going.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "This signing has been made possible through a matched funding approach by the Trust and individual board members and reflects the desire of the club to match the ambition and intent of the manager and his team.

"Without the recent increase in subscriptions, following the supporters’ forum in September, this signing would not have been possible – so a big thank you to the supporters that have supported the Trust and the individual board members that have ensured this signing could take place."

After completing the deal, Labadie said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be back. It’s good to finally get this over the line and I’m ready to get back into the swing of things.

“I’m back. The knee’s all good and I can’t wait to get going now. It’s been a long seven months.”

Manager Michael Flynn added: “I’m over the moon to have Joss back. He’s a fantastic player, a great leader and adds quality to what we’ve already got.

"For me, he’s going to come back stronger than ever and I’m really looking forward to him playing. I’d like to thank all the Trust and board members for making this a reality.”
