CHAMPIONS Newport Civil Service went to the top of the table for the first time this season after their 2-1 away win over Coed Eva Athletic, Marc Coombs and Mark Millinship their goal scorers.

Second placed Treowen Stars lost for the first time when visiting Abertillery Bluebirds, Paul Samuel, Luke Lewis, Joe Heard and substitute David Gibbs being the marksmen for the Bluebirds in a 4-3 scoreline. Undy Athletic also scored four against Cefn Fforest at the Causeway, Philip Tranter, a hat-trick, and Gareth Southan scoring. Abercarn United inflicted the first defeat on Albion Rovers when visiting Kimberley Park, Robert Aldridge scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory.

There are no changes in the Second Division with the top five clubs all recording victories. Leaders Pentwynmawr Athletic A had a single goal home win over Rogerstone, Ben Lewis the marksmen. Lee Peterson and substitute Matthew Hoskins scored to give Lliswerry a 2-1 win over West Pontnewydd at Spytty Park.

Llanhilleth Athletic returned from Hartridge School with a 4-3 victory over Cromwell, Richard Langley and Andrew Torrance scoring two apiece. Russell Williams and Gavin Lloyd scored the goals to give Fairfield United a 2-1 home win over Trethomas Bluebirds. There was also an away win for Trinant, 6-3 at Lucas Cwmbran, Craig Price, a hat-trick, Deri Stokes, Richard Lyons and John Lawrence the marksmen. Malpas Gladiators recorded their first victory by the odd goal of three when entertaining Tranch, Matthew Devlin and Philip Ricci scoring. Newport Corinthians and RTB Ebbw Vale fought out a goalless draw at Coronation Park.

Dean Morgan scored the only goal to keep Govilon top of the Third Division when entertaining Sudbrook Cricket Club. AC Pontymister scored four at the Bowling Green when entertaining Underwood through Scott Jeffries (2), Michael Howe and substitute Chris Jeffries.

New Inn defeated local rivals Sebastopol 2-1 at Golf Road, David Saunders and Chris Pritchard the marksmen. Crickhowell inflicted a first defeat on visitors Whiteheads with goals from Sam Timpson, Rob Young and Gareth Williams. Andrew Watkins (2), Steve Collett and Ben Bannon scored the goals to give Abergavenny Thursdays a 4-1 victory at Caldicot Castle. Lee Watkins scored both goals to earn Villa Dino Christchurch a 2-1 win at Crusaders.
