FRIDAY and Saturday morning's rain cleared up giving us a sunny, Saturday afternoon and perfect football conditions.

Two games were played in the P&P Pest Control Open Cup, round one. Newcomers Trevethin A kept up their winning ways with a 11-1 home win over Race. Trevethin A led 6-1 at half-time. There were three hat-trick goal scorers in the Trevethin A score, Kevin Rogers (4), Dean Lewis (3) and Chris Watkins (3). Jason Howells scored a consolation goal for Race.

Abergavenny Thursdays played host to Cwmffrwdoer on Pen-y-Pound Stadium. The score at half-time, full time and two periods of extra time was 0-0. The match then went to a penalty shoot-out and Thursdays won 3-1. Penalty goal scorers for Thursdays were Shane Barry, Ross Fury and Gareth Staphnill.

Goytre stay at the top of the Premier Division following their 3-2 home win over visitors Pontypool Town. Goytre led 2-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Goytre were Graham Mason and Kyle Hazzard. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town were Matthew O'Neil and Shaun Kearns. Pontypool Town hold fifth position.

Match of the day was third placed team Llanarth at home to second placed Pandy. The spoils went to Llanarth with a 4-0 win. Goals by Paul Rennie (2), Colin Morgan and Stephen Morgan. The sides were level 0-0 at half-time. Llanarth move up to second position. Pandy drop from second to third.

Lower New Inn got their first win in the league this season with a 4-3 home win over Gilwern and District. The sides were level 2-2 at half-time. Goal scorers for Lower New Inn were John Thompson (2), David Redwood and Kyle Mitchell. Goal scorers for Gilwern and District were Graham Rees (2) and Jonathan Pinkney. Lower New Inn stay in ninth position, Gilwern and District are in seventh.

Top team in Division One, Clydach Wasps, had no game. The second placed team used the advantage to go to the top with a 4-1 away win at Tranch. Blues led 2-0 at half-time. The Blaenavon Blues goals came via a hat-trick by Lee Carrick plus one from Jamie Brankley. Wes Davies scored for Tranch who hold fourth position. Clydach Wasps are in second position.

Highest score of the day was Govilon's 16-1 local derby win over visitors Crickhowell. The writing was on the wall at half-time when Govilon had established a 7-0 lead. There were three hat-tricks in the Govilon score, Stuart Norman scored 4, Jeff Sterry (3), Joshua Jones (3), Lewis Meadows (2), Rob Burns, Ben Bergoyne and Luciano Casa got one apiece. Govilon are in sixth position, Crickhowell 14th.

Fairfield United kept up their winning ways with a 3-2 away win at Sebastopol, although it was Sebastopol who led 1-0 at half-time. The three Fairfield United goals came from a David Roberts hat-trick. Sebastopol goals were scored by Rob Whittington and Simon Heatman. Fairfield United stay in third position, Sebastopol are in 13th.

Panteg and New Inn drew their local derby 2-2. The sides were level 1-1 at half-time. Goal scorers for Panteg were Tom Wise and Luke Whittam, goal scorers for New Inn were Wayne Wright and John Radcliffe. Panteg are in tenth position, New Inn hold 11th position. Luke Whittam was man of the match for Panteg, John Radliffe was man of the match for New Inn. The match was refereed by stand-in referee Phil Evans.

Trevethin B made it a club winning double on the day with a 5-0 away win at Gilwern B. Trevethin B led 4-0 at half-time. Trevethin B's goals came from Jason Fairclough, a hat-trick, Dwaine Hunt (1) and David Roberts (1). Trevethin B have a six-point lead at the top of Division Two. Gilwern B will now play catch-up on the others. Trevethin B have won six out of six so far.

Clydach B move back to second position following their 2-0 home win over Llanarth B. The sides were level 0-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Clydach B were Doran Reams and Ryan Bennett. Llanarth B are in fifth position, Clydach B second. Man of the match for Clydach B was David Bowkitt, man of the match for Llanarth B was Mark Ferry.

Prescoed got back to winning ways with an 8-2 home in over Pontypool Town B. Prescoed led 3-1 at half-time. Goal scorers for Prescoed were Grant Watkins (2), Joseph Curly, a hat-trick, Chris Went, Ross Edwards and Shaun Crabb. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B were Matthew Didcott and Shaun James. Prescoed move up to fourth position, Pontypool Town seventh. The match was well refereed by stand-in referee Gordon Snape. Dean Hutchinson was man of the match for Prescoed, Shaun James was man of the match for Pontypool Town B.
