WALES international Hallam Amos will make his Dragons return at Connacht on Saturday – in the new position of outside centre.

The 24-year-old has been out of action since suffering a dislocated elbow in the Guinness PRO14 loss to Leinster at the Royal Dublin Society in September.

The injury meant that he missed out on selection for the autumn internationals but he spent last week with the Wales conditioning team, who have given him the green light to return in Galway (kick-off 5.15pm).

However, it looks likely that Amos won't be slotting in at full-back or wing – the 18-times capped speedster is set to have 13 on his back.

He played centre as a schoolboy and for the Dragons academy but has never started in midfield in professional rugby.

Amos spend some time in pre-season training running at 13 and head coach Bernard Jackman is ready to run the experiment at the Sportsground.

The Wales international will certainly feature in the XV and add firepower to the three-quarters as the Dragons hunt a first PRO14 win away from home since March, 2015.

"It's fantastic to have Hallam back, he is looking really sharp and it's a massive boost for the whole squad," said forwards coach Ceri Jones.

"Hallam is very quick, very elusive and has a great offloading game. He is an X-factor player who can make things happen for us.

"Look at Jordan Williams and look at Hallam Amos and they can make things happen from nothing, like Jordan's try at Leinster.

"Hallam is capable of those moments and players like him can make space where other people can't."

The Dragons do not expect to have any of their Wales sextet - lock Cory Hill, tighthead Leon Brown, hooker Elliot Dee, blindside Aaron Wainwright, number eight Ross Moriarty and centre Tyler Morgan - for the clash at the Sportsground.

They will be forced into at least one change with lock Matthew Screech out after suffering an ankle injury in last week's 36-18 defeat at Ulster.

Lewis Evans, who has impressed since moving forward from the back row, is set to continue in the 4 jersey and his second row partner will be Joe Davies.

The 22-year-old came off the bench at Kingspan Stadium and will make his first start of the season in Galway.

"It was good to see Joe Davies go so well on Monday night," said Jones, who was in the stands at Ebbw Vale to watch the Dragons A beat Hong Kong 28-24.

"He came on against Ulster last weekend and it's good to have him back to form. I thought he was outstanding against Hong Kong so it's good to see him back.

"He is a big guy, one of the biggest guys in our pack, and he will give us something different."

The Dragons have lost 36 successive away games in the PRO14 and haven't won at Connacht since the first season of regional rugby, when ex-hooker Jackman was a replacement for the Irish province.
