THE majority of Gwent clubs return to MacWhirter Welsh League action tomorrow, although Caerleon will again be in cup action following the abandonment of their home Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup tie against Afan Lido last Saturday.

The game was called off some 15 minutes from time following a mass brawl at Cold Bath Lane and the Division One rivals are expected to be heavily fined by the relevant authority, which has ordered the match to be replayed.

However despite much media interest, Caerleon boss Brendan Dowd would only talk about his side's chances of making progress to the second round.

"Now that the lads know what to expect, we should be able to finish the job off," said Dowd, who revealed Kristian Hanbury is poised to re-join Caerleon from Bridgend Town, although the former Cwmbran Town midfielder will be ineligible to face the Lido.

"My players have enough on their minds because they are all playing for their places. They have enough to do to stay in the side without worrying what happened last week."

Caerleon central defender Jason Price plus Afan Lido pair Karl Lewis and Brian Thomas, the goalkeeper, have all been handed three-match suspensions after being sent off last Saturday.

Caerleon will give fitness test to hamstring-injury victims Jamie Hillier and Lee Relish while Simon Truman returns to the squad following a rest. Kick off is at 2.00pm In Division One, Cwmbran Town will seek to protect their status as the county's highest-placed club when they entertain struggling Maesteg Park Athletic.

However the sixth-placed Crows will again be minus striker Moses Molonga for personal reasons while left back Shola Oyinloye is on holiday.

Two positions behind Cwmbran are Newport YMCA, who will bid to stretch their unbeaten league and cup run to a seventh game when they visit Taffs Well.

YMCA will be unchanged for the second successive game after manager Mark Coldrick revealed every player is fit.

Caldicot Town will run late fitness tests on several players ahead of the home game against Cambrian & Clydach while second-from-the-bottom Croesyceiliog have received a blow after recent signing Kristian Whitcombe joined Taunton Town - after playing in just one match.

The former Caerleon full back-midfielder linked up with Croesyceiliog from Mangotsfield United and scored in last Saturday's 4-1 home cup win over Goytre.

"Kristian and the club had an agreement that he would help us by signing and that we wouldn't stand in his way if someone came in for him," said joint manager Chris Evans, who is without Ricky Coffe and Daniel Clouth for ETNO Aberaman's visit.

However he is able to call on Mark Morris, Danny Jenkins and Mark Alcock, all again available.

Division Two outfit Cwmbran Celtic will hope to follow up Wednesday's fine 3-0 Gwent Senior Cup win over Newport County by winning at Caerau (Ely) and have goalkeeper Nicky Church back after suspension plus new central defender Dean Taylor waiting to make his debut.

Llanwern are without Greg Taylor, Daniel Bailey and Mike Vaux for the visit of Treharris, but welcome back Matthew Currie, Richie Shire, Troy Quarterely and Marcus Power while Tredegar Town are at full strength for their trip to face Troedyrhiw.

Iuean A'Herne and Craig Williams will miss out when Aberbargoed Buds host Division Three rivals Monmouth Town, who will run fitness tests on a couple of players, while Risca United's unavailable goalkeeper Lee Jones will be replaced by Matthew Long in the game against Llansawel.

Abertillery Excelsiors have David Smith, Anthony Williams and Lewis Clarke back for their visit toto Merthyr Saints while Goytre will be minus Nathan Evans, Kevin Wallace, Dean Taylor and Andy Walsh at Penrhiwceiber Rangers.

However striker Joey Carless, a recent signing from Cwmbran Celtic, has been named in the squad.
