NEWPORT County start their FA Cup journey once again tomorrow with manager Peter Beadle hoping to finally put the events at last year's Swansea City tie to bed.

The club were fined £3,000 and Beadle £1,500 after the first round match last November descended into chaos when Beadle was sent off for arguing with officials and a coin thrown from the stands struck a linesman.

The Exiles travel to face Blue Square South rivals Basingstoke Town in the second qualifying round (kick-off 3pm) with Beadle eager to put that day behind him once and for all.

"It's in the past now. We'd like to remember that day for the right reasons because I think we played some good stuff but it was obviously overshadowed and we all learned lessons from it," he said.

With County running into form with three straight league wins, some may see Saturday's tie as a distraction but Beadle insists that an FA Cup run is important to the club.

"It's the best cup competition in the world and it's a chance for a bit of glory," he added. "A good run in the cup boosts confidence and helps build morale and will also be good financially."

Despite a comfortable 2-0 win over Basingstoke at Spytty Park back in August, Beadle is well aware that Saturday's game will be a tough encounter.

"They're a different proposition at home," explained Beadle. "They've won four out of five and I think they're not too far off challenging for a top eight place in the league."

Barring any last-minute injuries, Beadle is likely to revert to the team that beat Braintree last Saturday after making 11 changes for Wednesday's Gwent Senior Cup defeat to Cwmbran Celtic.

Paul Cochlin, who came off the bench to play 20 minutes at Cwmbran Stadium, is not yet ready to start a match after ten months on the sidelines and James Simpson is still out with a groin strain. But central defender Ian Hillier is available again after completing his ban for the red card at Bath City.

"The team picks itself at the moment," said Beadle. "They're all performing well and if I left anyone out who has played in the three wins they'd be entitled to feel very hard done by."

Basingstoke have informed County that, due to the anticipated high numbers attending the match on Saturday and following police advice, admission to the club house will be ticket only.

The official County supporters bus will be accommodated and a further 50 tickets will be available to supporters on the day on a first come, first served basis.

Fans should contact club secretary Mike Everett on arrival on 07889 359100 to claim their tickets. Fans are advised to arrive early (1.30pm onwards when Mike will be available with the tickets) if they require entry to the club house.
