A weekend of fundraising activities helped Fishguard Flyers Swimming Club raise a hefty £956.70 to help purchase new lane ropes for the north Pembrokeshire club.
A team of young Flyers helped shoppers to pack their bags at the checkout of the Co-op in Fishguard, raising £391.70 from grateful customers.
A day later, a second hardy bunch - ranging in age from 7 to 48 - scaled the 75ft Great Keep at Pembroke Castle and then abseiled down the imposing walls.
They raised £565 in sponsorship for the daredevil escapade to give the Fishguard club a total for the weekend of £956.70.
Fishguard Flyers is a competitive swimming club, founded in 1999, to provide a structured development pathway for promising young swimmers.
As well as the club’s own efforts, it was supported with very generous donations from community organisations, including the Round Table, Lions and Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council.
Friederike Schmidt, coach at Fishguard Flyers, said: “Thanks to all the organisations that stepped forward to help us to pay for this essential piece of equipment. Thanks also to our fantastic volunteers and members who played their part by raising funds for the club. What a great effort by everyone involved.”
