DRAGONS flanker Aaron Wainwright is on standby for Wales' autumn finale with South Africa because of a fitness doubt over Dan Lydiate.
Former Rodney Parade favourite Lydiate earned a start against the Springboks with strong displays against Scotland and Australia from blindside.
However, he is a doubt for this evening's Principality Stadium clash (kick-off 5.30pm) with Cardiff Blues flanker Ellis Jenkins ready to step up from the bench if needed.
That would lead to Wainwright, who made his Test debut against Argentina in June and impressed versus Tonga last weekend, being named among the replacements.
The 21-year-old from Basseleg can play across the back row but is considered to be primarily a blindside by the Wales management, who could even opt to fling him straight into the XV as a like-for-like replacement.
Unlike prop Leon Brown, Wainwright was not released for the Dragons' Guinness PRO14 game with Edinburgh tomorrow despite not being in Wales' matchday squad.
