NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn insisted he is "fully focused" on the job in hand after his side beat Northampton Town 3-1 at Rodney Parade.

Goals from Josh Sheehan, Jamille Matt and Padraig Amond were enough to see off the Cobblers and for County to climb to fourth in the League Two table.

And Flynn was delighted with the win after a week in which he has been strongly linked with the vacant manager's job at Shrewsbury Town.

"We were excellent," said Flynn. "What Cheltenham did to us (beating the Exiles 2-1 on Saturday) we did to Northampton today and it was a very professional performance.

"I'm glad we won today because... if we would have lost the fans would have said 'oh, their eyes are elsewhere, their heads are elsewhere' (with continuing speculation linking Flynn with the vacant manager's job at Shrewsbury). It's a load of nonsense.

"I'm fully focused on my job at Newport County and I still haven't heard anything (from Shrewsbury). I suppose if I was going to hear something I or my agent would have had a 'phone call, or the club would have.

"There's been no 'phone call, I'm Newport manager and I will be managing against Wrexham (in the FA Cup) on Saturday."
