SCOT Bennett believes tomorrow night’s FA Cup replay against Wrexham gives Newport County AFC the perfect opportunity to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Swindon Town.

Bennett returned to action after six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury when he replaced captain Andrew Crofts just before half-time at Swindon.

He’s delighted to be back and determined to help County beat Wrexham and set up a third-round clash with Premier League side Leicester City in January.

Speaking after the defeat at the County Ground, the 28-year-old told iFollow Exiles: “It’s one of them where you’re lucky that you’ve got the game on Tuesday really – it means we have a chance to hopefully bounce back quickly.

"We need to go into that game and go on and win it hopefully because it’s a big thing for the club, for the fans and for us as players."

Bennett missed the 0-0 draw at Wrexham on December 1 but he's confident County can prevail at the second attempt.

"We weren’t at our best when we last played them but again, we stayed in the game, had our own chances and we were disappointed not to take some of those," he said.

"Hopefully when we bring them back to our place, we can respond from today and go on and win the game.

"Wrexham did create some chances in that game as well,” he added. “Their movement up-front was good. The front three and the midfield, for me watching from home, was quite good.

"I know a lot of the players there have been in around the Football League and they’re not bad players. We’ve got to make sure we turn up and we’re at our best if we want to win the game.”

And Bennett believes County can use last season’s cup exploits to their advantage.

"We know from our experiences last year against Leeds and Tottenham that you are always in the game in cup football,” he said.

“We need to be positive, on the front foot and hopefully then we can take our chances, stop conceding sloppy goals and make sure we’re through to the next round."

Both Crofts and Mark O’Brien were forced off with hamstring problems on Saturday and that could mean a start for Bennett in midfield or defence.

“It’s really pleasing to get back out there,” he said. “It’s been a frustrating time but to come on and get a good 55 minutes was nice.

“If I’m needed [tomorrow] and the gaffer wants me then I’ll be there, and I’ll make sure I’m at my best."
