PROUD Newport County AFC manager Michael Flynn praised his "outstanding" team after their FA Cup adventure was ended by Manchester City at Rodney Parade.

A Phil Foden double and further goals for Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez sealed a 4-1 for the Premier League champions after Padraig Amond netted a consolation for County on 88 minutes.

Exiles boss Flynn told BBC Match of the Day: "I'm very proud of the team, they were outstanding.

"I am disappointed with the two goals conceded in injury time, because at 2-1 you have a grandstand finish, for something to fall your way and you are coming back from 2-0 against one of the best teams in Europe.

"There is no disgrace in losing they have beat bigger clubs by more.

"I have got a very good group of players and I can't speak highly enough of them.

"We need to move on now - we have a tough game on Tuesday [at Notts County] in the league. I'll give a tap on the back for them and then we go back to work."

South Wales Argus:

City boss Pep Guardiola, said: "We were calm in the second half and we made an incredible performance considering the conditions.

"David Silva is incredible, 33 years old and he fights and plays with this kind of level. David is a fantastic player, what can I add more about his qualities?

"What we have done so far is try to go game by game and try to win so the way you have to play against Chelsea at home is completely different to the game here.

"We will see in May and June how we do but it is important to be there in all competitions in February. The result will be shown at the end and now we have to recover and prepare for our trip to Germany [to face Schalke in the Champions League]."
