WALES hooker Elliot Dee has been given the green light to return in the Dragons' Guinness PRO14 clash at the Cheetahs on Saturday.

The 25-year-old from Newbridge missed the loss to the Ospreys and draw with the Southern Kings after suffering an injury to his ribs in the victory against Ireland that secured a Six Nations Grand Slam.

He was selected in the touring party for the South African double-header but last Sunday's fixture at Port Elizabeth came too soon for a return to action.

However, the Wales front rower has been given the all-clear to feature in Saturday's game in Bloemfontein (kick-off 6.35pm) along with stalwart forward Lewis Evans, who has recovered from a calf problem that has sidelined him for the last three games.

South Wales Argus:

Dee will push for a return straight into the XV after Richard Hibbard and Rhys Lawrence shared the duties at Madibaz Stadium.

The former recovered from a hamstring injury suffered at the Liberty Stadium to captain the side for 52 minutes before the latter made an impact off the bench.

Scrum-half Rhodri Williams, who was denied a second-half try that would have put the Dragons in front in the tense draw at the Kings because of a forward pass, is a doubt for this weekend because of a ankle injury.

Tavis Knoyle has impressed off the bench recently and is in pole position to start if Williams doesn't recover with Rhodri Davies the third scrum-half in the touring party.

After pairing Matthew Screech and Max Williams in the second row, head coach Ceri Jones must mull over whether to start with Evans, who has been converted from back row to lock this season, or put him on the bench.

The 31-year-old from Newport would provide some welcome experience in the Dragons' final chance to prevent their PRO14 away nightmare continuing into next season.

Jones said: "Both Elliot and Lewis are back in full training and that is a big boost for us ahead of the weekend.

"Elliot is desperate to get the jersey back on and feature and Lewis brings experience, leadership and is keen to make up for missing the last few games.

South Wales Argus:

"Rhodri has a bit of a knock but we are not too concerned at the moment and hopeful that we can get him involved this weekend."

Josh Lewis' 78th minute penalty earned a share of the spoils in Port Elizabeth and ended a 42-game losing streak but the region has not won on the road since Treviso in March, 2015.

They will attempt to end that run against a Cheetahs team that sit sixth in Conference A and are fresh from a 31-14 loss to the Ospreys at Free State Stadium.

Last season the South Africans won 29-17 at Rodney Parade after overturning a 10-3 half-time deficit and they went on to qualify for the play-offs.

Full-back Jordan Williams made a strong case for a recall after making a big impact with a superb try in the 18-18 draw against the Kings.

His fellow back three player Will Talbot-Davies, centre Jarryd Sage and loosehead Josh Reynolds were those in the touring party that didn't feature in Port Elizabeth along with Dee, Evans and Rhodri Davies.
