CRAWSHAY’S have appointed former Newbridge and Newport full-back Jonathan Westwood as rugby manager.

The 47-year-old, who also played for Neath, Cardiff, Monmouthshire and Wales Under-21s, toured France twice with the club in the 1990s.

Westwood went into coaching after hanging up his boots with Abercarn, ‘Bridge and Cross Keys, where he helped the Pandy Park club to Welsh Cup glory.

Now head of commercial at the Dragons, he will use his on and off field knowledge to help Crawshay’s.

Westwood will work alongside Ian Brice in selecting and running the senior XV.

“Having met key members of the Crawshay’s committee I was impressed with their new vision and the early plans they have for their international tours over the next few years, leading into their centenary year in 2022,” he said.

“Having such fond memories of my Crawshay’s tours, coupled with my knowledge of the modern rugby industry and landscape, I felt I could really add to this vision and turn it into a reality.

"I’m really proud and honoured to take up this role."

“This is an excellent appointment for the club,” said secretary Will Thomas, the former Keys and Ebbw Vale forward and ex-Dragons academy manager.

“Jonathan’s experience in and of Welsh rugby is extensive and he will be key in getting over the line the exciting tour plans we have started to put in place. “Additionally his influence and standing in the professional game will ensure our playing squad is of a required standard to take on these emerging opportunities. “We all welcome Westy on board and can’t wait to start working with him.”
