NEWPORT RFC have secured the return of abrasive back rower Reuben Tucker and signed up elusive wing Ryan Gardner.

Tucker, 26, made 19 appearances for the Black and Ambers in 2016/17 before signing for Cardiff.

Head coach Ty Morris said: "He was on fine form before moving to the Blue and Blacks in 2017, where he had some trouble with injuries. He's back now and fighting fit.

"We are hoping to get him back to his best and enjoying his rugby again with us – his dynamic and abrasive style of play will be a much needed addition to the squad."

South Wales Argus:

Tucker will be a member of a pack charged with providing quality ball for the likes of Gardner.

The winger has arrived from Brynmawr and showed supporters a glimpse of his talent with a try against Pontypridd in the pre-season friendly success at Sardis Road.

Backs coach Dai Lynch said: "Ryan has joined after a successful season in Division One East with Brynmawr.

"The coaches at Newport have been very impressed with his dedication and attitude to learning in training where he has thrown himself into any activity he has been presented with.

"Another workmanlike performance against Pontypridd in the first trial saw him rewarded with an interception try and he adds considerable competition to an already talented group of wingers."

The Black and Ambers kick of their Premiership campaign with a derby against Ebbw Vale at Eugene Cross Park on Saturday, September 7.
