DRAGONS duo Arwel Robson and Connor Edwards have joined English Championship side Jersey on loan, writes Chris Kirwan.

The pair of 22-year-olds have headed to the Reds with immediate effect and are in contention for the league encounter at Bedford Blues on Saturday afternoon.

The loan is initially for one month with the Rodney Parade region having a recall clause in case of injuries, although they don't return to action in the Guinness PRO14 until entertaining Benetton on Saturday, February 15.

Both have been fringe players this season with fly-half Robson (pictured below) having made three appearances and centre Edwards having two outings.

South Wales Argus:

"This is a great opportunity for both Arwel and Connor to go into a different environment and get some game time as part of their development," said director of rugby Dean Ryan.

"We look forward to seeing how both perform in the English Championship and wish them both success during their time with Jersey Reds."

Robson made his debut at Leicester in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in November 2016 and has racked up 22 appearances.

The playmaker from Penallta is out of contract this summer along with fellow fly-half Jacob Botica, who has been preferred as back-up to first choice 10 Sam Davies in recent months.

South Wales Argus:

Edwards, from Croesyceiliog, made an impact in 2017/18 with his direct approach in both attack and defence.

Last season was hindered by a broken cheekbone and a torn ACL while in the current campaign he has been behind Adam Warren, Jack Dixon, Tyler Morgan and Tom Griffiths in the pecking order.

Edwards signed a one-year contract extension last summer and was given a new long-term deal in October. He is no stranger to the English Championship having played briefly for Hartpury on loan last season.

Ex-Dragons scrum-half Luc Jones, son of former Rodney Parade boss Lyn, is also on the books at Jersey.
