DRAGONS centre Tom Griffiths is set to miss the rest of the season through injury.

The 24-year-old will undergo exploratory knee surgery tomorrow after taking a blow during a joint training session with Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park on February 7.

“It was just one of those unfortunate incidents,” said backs coach Barry Maddocks.

“Obviously, because we haven’t played for such a long time and it’s a physical sport, we have to somehow replicate what we’re preparing for.

“He’s got an operation on the knee on Wednesday and we won’t really know the full extent of the injury until after that.

“It’s going to be an exploratory thing to have a look and see what the damage is, but we wish him well with his recovery.”

Griffiths’ injury means the Dragons have recalled three-quarter Connor Edwards from his loan spell with Jersey ahead of Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 clash away to Glasgow.

“Connor Edwards has come back in from Jersey. He’s had a couple of games over there and done very well," added Maddocks.

Meanwhile, the Dragons’ postponed league encounter against Benetton, originally scheduled for last Saturday, has been rearranged.

The match will now take place at Rodney Parade on Friday, March 6 (kick-off 7.35pm), with all tickets sold for the original date remaining valid.
