RHYS Jones will aim to continue Ebbw Vale’s revival in the Premiership next season after the experienced fly-half agreed to stay with the Steelmen.
The 32-year-old returned to Eugene Cross Park in January after spending the first half of the campaign with champions Merthyr.
Jones, who followed in the footsteps of father Kingsley and younger brother Dorian by becoming a Steelman, had moved to the Wern after finishing as the league’s top points scorer in 2018/19.
The Wales Sevens international, who represented the Dragons and Scarlets, played his part in the Steelmen’s strong run of form that put them on the brink of safety before the season was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The playmaker’s composure and game management, as well as his accuracy from the kicking tee, will be key if Ebbw are to avoid another relegation scrap next season.
However, Lewis Williams will ensure that Jones doesn’t have it all his own way at 10 – the former Pontypridd fly-half will be back at Ebbw next season after suffering a groin injury following his arrival last November.
The duo will form half-back partnerships with Matthew Flanagan, who will enjoy a third season at Eugene Cross Park.
The scrum-half, who turned 24 last week and previously played for Llanelli, made the 9 jersey his own at the end of 2019/20.
