FORMER Ebbw Vale winger David Williams has earned an extension of his loan at Leicester Tigers.

The 25-year-old joined his hometown club from Nottingham for the finish of the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership season and made four appearances.

Williams, who came through the Tigers academy, made his senior debut at Exeter and scored his first try against London Irish.

The speedster's exploits have impressed the Leicester coaching team and he will stay at Welford Road for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

South Wales Argus:

Director of rugby Geordan Murphy said: "David impressed us from his first day with us, when we returned to training following the postponement period.

"He is a hard-working player, who demonstrates a professional attitude off the pitch and commitment to improving every day.

"What is important to us is that he understands Leicester Tigers and the journey we are on which, having come through our academy, he does and is committed to what we are building.

"We are extremely grateful to Nottingham for agreeing the loan with us and to have 'Cheese' with us for next season."

The winger, whose father is Welsh, signed for Ebbw Vale in 2015 after being released by Leicester and was a key member of the Steelmen's Premiership title-winning team, scoring twice against Pontypridd in the final.

Williams isn't the only ex-Ebbw speedster to have earned a chance in the Gallagher Premiership.

Toby Fricker, another Welsh-qualified Englishman, caught the eye of Bristol with his exploits at Eugene Cross Park and featured for the Bears last season as they made the play-offs and won the European Challenge Cup.
