NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn says his calls for a ruthless streak are not just aimed at his strikers, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Exiles entertain Morecambe this afternoon on the back of a hard-fought draw at fellow promotion hopefuls Forest Green.

It was a good point but it could easily have been a maximum haul only for Flynn’s side to be wasteful in front of goal.

The manager has frequently called for a killer streak despite his team setting the pace in League Two, and it’s not just those leading the line that are under pressure.

“We've got a mixture of strikers. People at the middle of their career, those at the start and those coming towards the end,” said Flynn, who has Padraig Amond, Tristan Abrahams, Jamie Proctor (pictured below), Saikou Janneh and Ryan Taylor as options along with academy prospect Ryan Hillier.

South Wales Argus:

“We have got the right blend but have got to take those chances, and it's not just the strikers when I ask for ruthlessness. I don't care who scores, I just want people in the right position to score.

“That sounds a lot simpler than reality because you have a goalkeeper and defenders in front of you and you have to make a snap decision about where you are going to try and do, but we should be scoring more.”

County start as favourites this afternoon thanks to an impressive home record in League Two of six wins and a draw from seven games.

They are setting the pace but Flynn insists there will be no complacency.

"The pressure comes with such a good start but it doesn't give you the right to just turn up and have three points," said the manager.

"We know Morecambe, we've done our research and analysis on them and they are a very good team.

"Derek Adams has done a good job there and it will be a tough game. On their day they are a very good team and they have had a very good start as well.

"These are the ones that people can get carried away and expect the three points but there are no guarantees in this league."
