THE Dragons are without 10 players for Saturday’s Champions Cup clash with Bordeaux-Begles after two more positive coronavirus tests.

The region had to pull six players – wing Ashton Hewitt, tightheads Leon Brown and Lloyd Fairbrother, back row forwards Harri Keddie and Aaron Wainwright and lock Matthew Screech – from the planned matchday squad for the fixture against Wasps.

That was after two individuals tested positive for coronavirus and a review of training footage showed up six others, including two who were not involved in the Champions Cup opener, who had been in close contact with them.

The Dragons have their weekly round of testing and now have two more unnamed options - one who was involved against Wasps - that are not in the mix for Saturday’s fixture at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

"We've got two further positives in the playing squad and one member of staff,” said director of rugby Dean Ryan.

South Wales Argus:

"We have done all of our track and trace for the wider squad and it will not impact us into the weekend.

"We have been in contact with EPCR and Wasps have a clean bill of health, which is good to know as well.

“What we did on Monday was pretty light and there is no further impact on the squad."

Exeter's game at Toulouse has been cancelled after an outbreak at the Chiefs, with their opponents from last weekend Glasgow also having their fixture against Lyon scratched.

The Dragons had three Guinness PRO14 games postponed in November after a coronavirus outbreak.
