CARDIFF Blues boss John Mulvihill will miss the Boxing Day derby against the Dragons at Rodney Parade (kick-off 3pm).

The head coach is self-isolating after coming into close contact with a senior squad player who has since tested positive for coronavirus.

Mulvihill held a one-to-one meeting with the player on Friday and the individual late displayed mild symptoms.

Two members of the squad, who live together, have now tested positive for Covid-19 following a community transmission and are now adhering to all Public Health Wales guidelines.

Mulvihill tested negative in the Blues’ weekly round of testing but must still isolate for 10 days.

The Australian is in the same position as Dragons counterpart Dean Ryan was in November when he missed the home fixture against Munster after a member of his staff tested positive.

“Mulvihill will remain in close communication with the squad this week, with team meetings already taking place online, and will be linked up live to the coaches box at Rodney Parade,” read a Cardiff Blues statement.
