NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn says he’s had a “disaster” in the transfer market this week.

The Exiles boss has added three players to his promotion-chasing squad so far in January, bringing in midfielder Jack Evans from Swansea on a permanent deal and loanee forwards Owen Windsor and Jake Scrimshaw from West Brom and Bournemouth respectively.

Flynn had hoped to bolster his team ahead of tomorrow’s League Two clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Salford City but has endured frustration.

“I've had a disaster this week in the transfer market,” said the manager, who will hold talks with midfielder Jamie Devitt and striker Jamie Proctor after the Ammies fixture, with their loan deals expiring on Sunday.

“I've tried to bring players in and thought that I was close to a few, some good names and very good signings, but we have fallen at the last hurdle.

“It's got nothing to do with finance, just parent clubs changing their minds and wanting to keep players or injuries to one or two.

“It's been a testing week but we go onto Plan B. The way this is going, it is all going to be done on the last day.

“If I could've got the players in that I spoke to then I probably would've been done this week. I had my list and it's not quite worked out that way.”

If it does go to the wire then it will be a blow because County have a key run of games before the deadline with this weekend’s clash with Salford followed by the short trip to Cheltenham on Tuesday.

The Exiles then host current leaders Carlisle before heading to Harrogate on Saturday, January 30.
