HISTORY has been repeating at Dragon Park this week with Newport County AFC boss Michael Flynn hopes the presence of Wilfried Bony will boost the Exiles' young talent.

The former Premier League striker trained with County in the summer of 2019 while mulling over his next move.

The 32-year-old signed for Saudi side Al Ittihad last year but revealed in November he had mutually agreed to end his contract.

Bony has again linked up with the Exiles, who are currently training at the FAW's facility in the city, but a deal for the Swansea City favourite, who earned a big-money move to Manchester City, is well beyond the League Two club.

Instead the Ivory Coast international is staying sharp with County and helping others who will take to the field in the push for promotion from League Two.

"Wilf is here with us and he is fantastic around the place, especially for the young boys who have just come in on loan," said manager Michael Flynn, referring to forwards Owen Windsor and Jake Scrimshaw.

"His quality is superb and he is working hard to get fit. If I can help him out then I have got no problem in doing that because he is great to have around.

"It's really good and Wilf fits in with everybody - there is no ego at all, he is just a level-headed, hard-working man who wants to have an opportunity of playing at a high level again.

"He still has got touches of quality and is in good shape. He is in better shape now than when he first came here.

"He is doing extras every day and has the determination, so I am sure if he gets an opportunity in a good team then he wouldn't let them down."
