NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn is hoping to have a busy fortnight in the transfer market after the confirmation that Jamie Proctor and Jamie Devitt have left Rodney Parade.

The experienced duo signed on deadline day in October, midfielder Devitt from Blackpool and striker Proctor from Rotherham.

Their deals expired on Sunday and they have become the sixth and seventh players to return to their parent clubs, following Swindon’s Scott Twine, Swansea’s Brandon Cooper, Lincoln’s Aaron Lewis and Bristol City duo Saikou Janneh and Bradley Webb.

Devitt swiftly made a permanent move from Blackpool to Barrow on an 18-month contract.

South Wales Argus:

Flynn had hoped to have already significantly bolstered his squad for the League Two promotion push but revealed last Friday that he had had a week of “disaster” on the recruitment front.

Against Salford the manager lost wing-back Ryan Haynes to a head injury but Ashley Baker came on and helped earn a point, a situation that he wants across the team.

“That’s what a squad is for. I have said that I want a squad capable for these kinds of situations and I am trying my hardest to get players in,” said Flynn.

“Fingers crossed the next two weeks is a bit more fruitful than the last two.”

County signed midfielder Jack Evans from Swansea and brought in young forwards Jake Scrimshaw and Owen Windsor on loan from Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion respectively.

The departure of two more senior campaigners leaves the second-placed Exiles needing to strengthen if they are to stay in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Proctor, 28, played 13 times for the Exiles with goals in the FA Cup win against Salford and League Two loss at Leyton Orient.

South Wales Argus:

Devitt made 11 appearances for County, four of them starts.

The 30-year-old Irishman scored the winner in the FA Cup win at Leyton Orient and was in the XI against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend before being an unused substitute versus Salford.

County take on Cheltenham this evening.
