NEWPORT County AFC have added to their attacking options by signing winger Luke Gambin on loan from League Two rivals Colchester United.

The 27-year-old left-footer has made 13 outings for The U’s this season along with six appearances for Malta in the Nations League.

Gambin, who came through the ranks at Barnet before spells at Luton and Crawley, will move to Rodney Parade to help in the push for promotion.

“When I first became aware of the club’s interest in me, it was something that I wanted to pursue,” he said.

“I’ve already played a lot of football in League Two and got to the play-offs with Colchester last season, so I know what to expect and hopefully I can bring that experience to help this team.

“The manager wants me to add something to this group, but they are already a great team and doing really well, so I’m happy to be a part of it and it’s a great opportunity for me.”

County have been struggling for creativity in the final third since attacking midfielder Scott Twine returned to Swindon.

South Wales Argus:

Manager Michael Flynn hopes that the arrival of Gambin can help them rediscover a cutting edge.

He said: “Luke already has a lot of experience playing in this division and on the international stage, so he will add a lot of quality to help the squad in the final third.

“He knows what it takes to compete at the top end of the table after getting to the play-offs with Colchester last season.

“Hopefully he can go one step further with us and help us get promotion to League One.”
