FORMER Newport County AFC loanee Ben Davies is set for a dream move to Liverpool.
The Premier League champions have been hit by a series of centre-back problems with Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and back-up Fabinho all on the injured list.
Liverpool have agreed a £2million fee with Preston for 25-year-old defender Davies, who had been on the radar of Celtic ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.
A medical has been scheduled for today with 19-year-old Dutchman Sepp Van Den Berg likely to head the other way on loan for the rest of the season.
Davies joined County on loan in the 2016 January transfer window and made 20 appearances for Warren Feeney's side.
After spending that campaign battling relegation for the Exiles, who finished 22nd in League Two, the left-footer had a spell with Fleetwood before breaking through at Preston.
Now he will provide cover at the back for a Liverpool side trying to catch up with pace-setters Manchester City in the defence of their title.
