NEWPORT County AFC have shifted their League Two fixture against promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers to Sunday (kick-off 1pm).

The Exiles had been set to entertain the second-placed Rovers at Rodney Parade on Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Dragons had hosted Leinster in the Guinness PRO14.

That double-header combined with a poor weather forecast - heavy rain on Friday and light rain Saturday - led to the duo approaching the EFL about pushing the game back a day.

Conditions on the well-used surface will still be extremely testing but the move gives them a better chance of avoiding a postponement in the already chocker fixture list.

"The Exiles were scheduled to take on Forest Green at 3pm on Saturday, but the game will now take place the following day at 1pm due to the adverse weather forecasted this weekend," read a statement.

"Following an agreement between both clubs, the EFL have approved the request to reschedule the fixture."

It will now kick-off at 1pm on Sunday, a move that leaves Michael Flynn’s side with a rapid turnaround to their Tuesday trip to Walsall.

It could well be that the trip to the West Midlands also gets pushed back a day; Forest Green have already confirmed that their midweek encounter with Southend at the New Lawn will be on Wednesday.

County, who scrambled a 1-1 draw with nine-man Exeter on Tuesday, are fifth in the table despite an awful run of form while Forest Green are second after a 4-3 win against Oldham.
