SCOT Bennett is back in the mix for selection for Newport County AFC’s trip to Walsall in League Two tomorrow evening (kick-off 5.30pm).

The midfielder, who can also slot into defence, has served a three-match suspension after being sent off in the 1-0 win against Grimsby at Rodney Parade for a reckless challenge.

The 30-year-old Cornishman had made 27 appearances before the ban, starting 21 times.

Manager Michael Flynn will mull over his formation for the trip to the Bescot Stadium after going with four at the back for the defeat to Forest Green Rovers in challenging Newport conditions.

Matty Dolan was an unused substitute and is an option as a starter at the heart of a three-man defence.

Creative midfielder Luke Gambin is another contender for the starting 11 on a surface that will be more conducive to playing on the deck.

Flynn has options up front with January signings Nicky Maynard and Dom Telford, Padraig Amond, Ryan Taylor and Jake Scrimshaw.

Bournemouth prospect Scrimshaw spent the first half of the season with the Saddlers, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals.

The 20-year-old has struck twice for County, a header at Oldham and at Harrogate when Gambin's shot deflected in off him, but might have to settle for adding energy off the bench on his return to the West Midlands.

The Exiles are clinging on in the play-off places ahead of tonight's fixtures while Walsall are 14th.
