RHYS Lawrence’s Dragons career is over after the hooker was given a three-week ban for his red card at Cardiff Blues.

The front rower scored his first try for the Rodney Parade region at the Arms Park after coming off the bench for a 19th appearance.

However, the 32-year-old was then dismissed late on after footage was reviewed of a dangerous hit on Josh Turnbull at a ruck, the Cardiff back rower issuing a captain’s challenge for foul play after it was missed by the officials.

Scottish referee Mike Adamson deemed it worthy of a dismissal and the PRO14 have banned the hooker.

“The judicial officer concluded that a mid-range offence had occurred, carrying a six-week suspension,” read a statement.

“Having considered all available evidence, mitigation of 50 percent was applied, bringing the ban to three weeks.”

Lawrence was released by the Dragons last summer but signed on a deal until the end of the season to provide cover after Wales called up Elliot Dee.

With the region having just three games remaining, the former Scarlets, Bristol and Ealing forward’s time at Rodney Parade will come to an end.

Taylor Davies, who is on loan from the Scarlets, has been the starting hooker so far in the Rainbow Cup and Richard Hibbard is set to return from a hand injury to join him in the 23 against the Ospreys on Sunday.

Dee is close to a return after a calf issue while Ellis Shipp is currently out with a knee injury.
