SUPPORTERS returned to Rodney Parade for the first time since March 2020 and were treated to a huge win in Newport County AFC’s push for promotion.

The Exiles took a big step towards Wembley with a 2-0 win over Forest Green Rovers in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

Goals by Matty Dolan and Lewis Collins were greeted by roars from 900 fans with season ticket holders getting to see their first game of 2020/21.

The Amber Army had last headed through the turnstiles for a 1-0 win against Morecambe on March 7, 2020.

South Wales Argus:

The first leg against Rovers was chosen as a pilot event for the safe return of fans with season ticket holders entering a ballot with the hope of being one of the lucky 900.

They went home ecstatic in the rain and will hope Michael Flynn’s side complete the job at the New Lawn, where the Gloucestershire side will be cheered on by their fans, on Sunday to earn them another game at Wembley on Monday, May 31.
